The spring transfer portal window is heating up, and Penn State is starting to see movement from former players—most notably linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson, who is expected to land at USC.

Robinson, a Pittsburgh native and former four-star recruit, took a visit to Southern California and is reportedly leaning toward joining D’Anton Lynn’s defense. With USC in need of linebacker help, Robinson would likely be a good fit schematically. However, his decision to leave Penn State remains puzzling. Despite having a path to playing time, Robinson may have been caught in a numbers crunch or uncomfortable with the defensive coaching changes.

Another departure is cornerback Jon Mitchell, who committed to Georgia Tech. Mitchell was reportedly homesick and seeking a return closer to his Florida roots. Georgia Tech offers a solid program and a chance for early playing time, making it a logical destination.

On the offensive line, JB Nelson is exploring options including Georgia Tech, Syracuse, Maryland, and Virginia Tech. A valuable swing lineman, Nelson was Penn State’s sixth man but could start elsewhere. Maryland remains a Big Ten option, but the ACC seems more likely.

Lastly, walk-on linebacker Beckham Dee has entered the portal. Though not a scholarship player, Dee showed potential and has received FCS interest from programs like Lafayette and Bryant. His departure reflects the harsh reality of the NCAA’s upcoming 105-player roster limit, which will force difficult cuts across the country.

Expect more names to follow, especially after the Blue-White Game. With limited room and NIL implications looming, Penn State will likely see further attrition before the July 1 roster deadline.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
